HOW TO STAY CONNECTED WHEN TRAVELLING ABROAD

Travelling abroad is a great way to explore the world, but it's important to stay in connected with family and friends; especially on the slower, quieter days. Thankfully, with a few simple tips and tricks, it’s easier than ever to stay connected while abroad.

First, you'll have to do some research and find out the answer to these three questions:

  1. What is the connection like in the country/places you're travelling to

  2. Find out whether an international plan or local sim is best

  3. How much is it going to cost to stay connected?

Once you've found out the answer to those three questions you'll be well on your way to staying in touch with loved ones while you're away. If you're planning on getting a local sim do some extra research about where you can one from when arrive. Make sure you know how to ask for a sim and data in the local language.

Second, make sure you have access to a reliable Wi-Fi connection when you land to let everyone back home know that you have landed safely. This could mean upgraded your accommodation for the first night of your trip or finding a local cafe that has free public Wi-Fi.

Third, consider using an app or service to make calls and send messages. We all know of the classic Whatsapp but Facebook messenger and Zoom are great platforms too. Make sure the people you want to stay in contact with have one or two apps downloaded on their phones so you can keep in touch.

Fourth, throughout your trip let friends and family know if you're going to be off-grid for a night or two! That way they won't be sat at home worrying about you (well not as much).

Finally, don’t forget about social media! Posting regular updates on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram is a great way to let your family and friends know what you’re up to and how you’re doing.

By following these simple tips, you’ll be able to stay connected with your loved ones while travelling abroad. Have a great trip!
