How we are transforming beaches: a tale of environmental transformation

Everyone’s doing beach cleans but are they having the desired impact?

We had seen other organisations across the globe on social media conducting beach cleans but we soon realised that many beach cleans don’t include people from the local community. So we decided community beach cleans were the way to go. By collaborating with local association Miaraka we were able to get together a group of people that were willing to cook lunch for up to 100 people, to encourage the local community to come and participate in a community beach clean. To incentivise the community even more we offer everyone a soft drink at the end of the clean.

We had no idea if this would work but we thought… Why not give it a go and it turned out to be an incredible success. Collectively we shared messages to the community about the importance of keeping the beach clean for locals and tourists and we encouraged people to clean the beach with us.

Building Community

Community beach cleans play a vital role in building a strong sense of community while tackling the prevalent issue of plastic pollution. By organising and participating in these events, individuals come together to actively contribute to the preservation of their local environment. Beach cleans foster a sense of camaraderie and shared responsibility, as people work side by side to clear their shores of harmful debris. Not only do these initiatives encourage a cleaner and healthier coastline, but they also raise awareness about the devastating impact of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems. By engaging the community in these collective efforts, we can inspire lasting change and foster a deep connection to our natural surroundings.

Inspiring The Next Generation

As we strive to inspire the next generation to understand and appreciate the importance of our oceans and environment, community beach cleans play a pivotal role. These events bring together individuals of all ages and backgrounds, fostering a sense of unity and shared responsibility towards our planet. By actively participating in beach cleans, young people learn firsthand the impact of pollution on marine life and the delicate balance that exists within ecosystems. Through these experiences, they develop a deep-rooted understanding of the significance of preserving our oceans and environment for future generations. By instilling a sense of environmental stewardship through community beach cleans, we empower and inspire the next generation to take action and create a sustainable future for our planet.

Plans for the Future

At TSAP Travel, we have ambitious plans for the future that center around fostering a sustainable environment for the community. One of our primary goals is to expand the reach of our community beach cleans across the island. We firmly believe that every individual has a role to play in protecting our beaches and oceans. By organising regular beach cleans, we aim to engage the community in proactive efforts to reduce pollution and preserve the beauty of our coastlines. Additionally, we are excited to introduce the concept of eco-bricks to the island. These innovative building blocks, made by compacting plastic waste into solid bricks, offer a creative solution to combat plastic pollution. We envision collaborating with local organisations and schools to educate and involve the community in eco-brick production and usage, ultimately reducing the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfills or the ocean. Lastly, our commitment to the community extends beyond beach cleans and eco-bricks. We plan to provide continuing education opportunities that raise awareness on environmental issues and inspire sustainable practices in our daily lives. Through workshops, seminars, and interactive sessions, we aim to empower individuals with knowledge and tools to make informed and environmentally-conscious decisions. In this way, we hope to create a more sustainable future for our community and preserve the natural wonders of our island for generations to come.
